For many years, manufacturers have overstated the value of reverse osmosis systems for homes. Some municipal facilities which use large treatment systems use reverse osmosis in their primary and secondary stages, but is a far cry from being clean for drinking. They remove some but not all the toxins in the water supply.
If you are not aware yet, there are over two thousand one hundred dangerous chemicals that have been discovered lurking in America's water supply system and reverse osmosis can only remove very few of these toxins. The process starts by forcing water through a porous membrane with pressure. The substances which are blocked depends on the type of membrane used. However, some chemicals are so tiny in their molecular size when they mix with water that they still pass through the membranes of the system. People must realize that the process alone cannot protect them and they need that extra precautionary measure to ensure that their water is completely safe and clean.
Army units sometimes use the same process when they are in the field but to make the water potable, they use disinfectants to make sure the system is almost free of toxins and bacteria.
Americans must be aware that the filtration process that removes all the minerals in the water is just as harmful as drinking the chemicals in it. Distillation, another kind of water treatment system does the same thing of removing the contaminants in the water at the same time eliminates the good stuff as well. The minerals such as potassium, calcium, and manganese are important elements which the body needs to stay healthy. Reverse Osmosis takes out these minerals and thus produce water that is acidic and harmful to one's health.
Another thing reverse osmosis cannot block are cysts. Cysts are types of parasite that dwell in the water and pass through corroded pipes in the homes. They are resistant to chlorine and can be very hazardous to humans.
Decades of pollution has caused all these pollutants to increase in the water supply of major cities, sometimes even pharmaceutical drugs, pesticides and herbicides had been found in America's tap.
So what's the best way to have safe and clean water? I know what you're thinking. Bottled water. Well, don't count on it because the EPA claims that the water in these plastic bottles is as unsafe as water taken from the tap. The chemical, phthalate, found in the plastic containers of water bottles is a dangerous carcinogen and is found to dissolve with the water inside the bottle. There are countless cases where bottled water is considered pure hype because of the marketing and advertising efforts made by bottling companies to project their products as safe. CNN and ABC news have documented reports that bottled water is not what it seems.
